In 2002, SSI installed a shredding machine under a valuable grant support from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunities (DCEO), formerly known as the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs (DCCA).

SSI’s shredding service has been effective for the following tasks:

• Hard Drive Destruction: This service is mostly utilized by corporations and governmental institutions to ensure that all proprietary information stored in hard drives is totally destroyed. For customers that require witness shredding, SSI uses webcam to allow customers witness the process on line. Materials from all shredded hard drives are recycled.
  
  
• Product Destruction: This service is mostly utilized by electronics OEM customers that require product destruction on small items that are not suitable for manual disassembly. Shredded materials will be properly recycled in accordance to material properties.
  
  
• Material Condensation: For plastic and metal materials disassembled from SSI’s product de-manufacturing process, SSI will shred them in order to condense the volume. This has greatly reduced the warehousing and transportation costs in addition to significantly reducing the consumption of gasoline by trucks.
