SSI is very active in Chicago and the surrounding metropolitan area. SSI creates partnerships to collect electronic waste (e-waste) for recycling. In 2010, the Illinois Electronic Reuse and Recycling Act is taking effect. This legislation requires manufacturers of electronics to pay for residential e-waste to be recycled properly. The legislation also prohibits businesses and consumers from improperly disposing of certain types of e-waste into landfills. For more information please visit the following link. http://www.illinoisrecycles.org/pdffiles/ExecutiveSummary5-6-08.pdf October 23, 2010 - Buffalo Grove Electronics Collection Event SSI is partnering with the Village of Buffalo Grove, in conjunction with Siemans Industry and SWANCC (Solid Waste Agency of Norther Cook County) to sponsor an electronics collection event. The event will take place at Siemens' headquarters, located at 920 Deerfield Parkway in Buffalo Grove and will last from 9am-12pm. Residents are encouraged to bring their unwanted household electronics to aid in preparation for the 2010 Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act. October 30, 2010 - Evanston Electronics Collection Event SSI is partnering with SWANCC and the Vineyard Christian Church of Evanston to sponsor an electronics collections event. The event will take place in the Vineyard Christian Church parking lot, located at 2495 Howard in Evanston. The event will take place from 9am - 1pm. November 13,2010 - IKEA Electronics Collection Event IKEA of Schaumburg is hosting an electronics collection event, with SSI as its recycler. The event will take place in the IKEA parking lot just north of Woodfield Mall. IKEA is located at 1800 McConnor Parkway in Schaumburg. SSI currently holds six stringent certifications for environmental, quality and health and safety management, as well as data security. All hard drives will go through SSI’s rigorous NAID (National Association for Information Destruction)-certified data sanitization process that requires a minimum of three wipes to ensure drives are completely erased. According to Lee, this data sanitization process adheres to the U.S. Department of Defense’s strict data destruction specification. Prohibited Items: All of the above items are based on current IL-EPA e-waste laws for residential recycling standards.
