EPA Prime Contractor for Electronics DisposalSSI Wins National EPA READ Contract
SSI was recently awarded the national contract for the U.S. EPA Recycling Electronics and Asset Disposition (READ) Program. Under this contract, SSI will provide electronics recycling services to Federal agencies throughout the nation. On December 16, 2004, Jade Lee, owner of SSI, was present for the READ contract signing ceremony in Washington, D.C. “SSI is honored to be recognized by the U.S. EPA as a premier electronics recycler. “SSI’s breadth of services, well-structured ISO procedures, in-depth analytical reports and strategically positioned national collection and processing infrastructure, were the key factors in being chosen by the U.S. EPA. “SSI was chosen, out of a field of over 800 recyclers in the country, to perform these services for the federal government. This is a distinguished accomplishment for SSI, and a testament to our commitment to the highest standards in the industry.” Through this process SSI secured a U.S. Forest Service that required SSI to service 800 Forest Service locations with their Retire IT Asset Recovery Remarketing and Electronics Recycling Service for the United States, Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico. The government disposes of approximately 10,000 computers every week, a significant number of which are ending up in storage closets, warehouses and landfills, or overseas, where environmental standards are generally lower. If mishandled, toxic chemicals like lead, mercury, chromium, cadmium, and beryllium can be released into the environment. This complex waste stream poses challenging management issues and potential liability concerns for federal facilities. Reuse, recycling, and proper disposal can keep tons of pollutants out of landfills and the environment. The U.S. EPA’s vision is to promote and advance the disposition, reclamation, reuse, and recycling of electronic assets held throughout the Federal sector in order to enhance public health and environmental protection. As a national contractor, SSI will utilize its strength in recycling to assist federal agencies to properly manage the disposition of their electronic assets. In the last two years, SSI has devoted significant efforts to expand its service offerings and establish a national footprint. Today, it provides unparalleled services in both the electronics recycling and reverse logistics industries. As a one-source solution, from “cradle to grave,” SSI offers high-quality value-added services to corporate customers. Our solid services empower customers to focus on their core competency while avoiding environmental liabilities. |
